Dear [specify each legislator's name with the title of Sen. Or Rep.],
I am writing to you out of serious concern over proposed Bill 5286.
I have read the Center for Disease Control Morbidity and Mortality
Weekly Report from June 22, 2001, which dealt with smallpox vaccine
and contraindications. Clearly, the CDC acknowledges certain groups
that should not get the vaccine in the absence of an outbreak. If there
is an outbreak I believe that those with medical or religious reasons
should have a quarantine option, in humane conditions preferably in
their own home as the proposed California law permits, versus forced
vaccination. The option of quarantine versus vaccination is viable
considering that the CDC Model State Emergency Health Powers Act from
December 21, 2001 offers this option.
My family would be adversely affected if we were forced to be vaccinated
because [give a personal reason here].
Please amend Bill 5286 to permit a religious, medical and philosophical
exemption from forced vaccination under Section 6 and 12.
Please amend Bill 5286 so that the Governor could not declare a state
of emergency when the AIDS vaccine becomes available or when Connecticut
is hit with the yearly flu.
Please take my request under serious consideration and I look forward
to hearing from you as I am following this legislation very closely.
Thank you,
